KOZHIKODE, DEC. 5. The Marad Judicial Inquiry Commission will peruse the statements of the Industries Minister, P.K. Kunhalikutty, made at Stadium Corner in Kannur on November 30 and examine whether they were communally provocative under Section 153 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The Section refers to promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony. The Commission has issued orders to the Kairali channel to produce the cassette containing the speech of Mr. Kunhalikutty during a reception accorded to him by the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML). The Commission issued the order suo moto after viewing the speech of Mr. Kunhalikutty in the visual media. It was alleged that Mr. Kunhalikutty used the public address system after the stipulated time of 10 p.m. and that his statements were communally provocative in nature. During his deposition before the Commission a few months ago, Mr. Kunhalikutty had stated that he and his party were anti-communal and that he stood for maintaining communal harmony and had worked for peaceful settlement of issues at Marad. Based on the statements, if so required, the Commission may examine Mr. Kunhalikutty again, it is reliably learnt.
