TIRUNELVELI, DEC. 5. A five-wicket haul by Roshan (five for 20) and unbeaten half centuries by Varun (53 n.o.) and Abrar (54 n.o.) helped Madurai defeat Virudhunagar by 105 runs and enter the quarterfinals of the ICL Mahaveerchand Memorial Trophy inter-district under-13 cricket tournament at ICRC ground here on Sunday.
Pre-quarterfinals:
Madurai 136 for three in 25 overs (Varun 53 n.o. Abrar 54 n.o.) bt Virudhunagar 31 in 14 overs (Roshan five for 20).
Erode 42 in 23.5 overs lost to Coimbatore 43 for two in 20.3 overs. Tirunelveli 66 in 29.4 overs (R. Manoj four for 12) lost to Vellore 67 for four in 22.2 overs.
First round:
Theni 62 in 24.1 overs lost to Nagapattinam 63 for four in 15 overs.
Thanjavur 147 for four in 30 overs bt Tiruchi 124 in 29.1 overs (S.R. Mithun 60).
Dindigul 77 in 24.5 overs lost to Sivaganga 79 for four in 25.5 overs.
