UDUPI, DEC. 5. K. Raghupati Bhat, MLA, on Sunday said the district offices complex would be constructed at End Point in Manipal. He told presspersons here that the construction of the complex would begin soon and it would be completed by June 2006. The Karnataka Housing Board had been entrusted with the work. The complex would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 10 crores, he said. Mr. Bhat noted that seven years had passed in identifying a site for the complex. The Government guidelines stipulated that a complex should be constructed on a minimum area of 10 acres, he said and added that the 32 acres of land at End Point belonged to the Government. The delay in identifying a site for the complex had resulted in the Office of the Superintendent of Police being constructed in the city while work had begun on the zilla panchayat building, he said. Mr. Bhat said people had been put to a lot of hardship as Government offices were now located in different parts of the city. Besides, a lot of money was being paid as rent, which was resulting in loss of money to the exchequer. The construction of the complex at End Point would solve all the problems, he added. The Government had approved the construction of the complex at End Point, he said.
Roads
He said Rs. 10 crores had been sanctioned by the State Government for repair of State highways and major district roads in the district. Of this, Rs. 82 lakhs had been earmarked to repair some stretches of the ring road in the city, Mr. Bhat added.
