RAMANATHAPURAM, DEC. 6. Tension prevailed at Mariyur near Sayalgudi, following stabbing of two Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam activists today. According to sources, problems erupted between the TMMK cadres and the villagers over slogan shouting by the activists, when they were on the way to attend a demonstration here. An altercation between two groups ended in the stabbing of Beer Mohamed (22) of Valinokkam, and Hameed (60) of Oppilan, suffered cut injuries. A group also smashed the windowpanes of a van, in which the TMMK activists were travelling. The stabbing incident also caused tension among TMMK activists who were arrested and kept in the Seethakathi-Sethupathi stadium for defying police orders and staging the demonstration. The police arrested Pichammal (28), son of Veeramani Thevar, main accused in the case. The police are on the lookout for a few more persons involved in the stabbing incident.
