KOCHI, DEC. 6. Rs. 5 lakhs was found missing from the cash section of the Kochi Corporation office. According to a complaint filed with the police, Sudheer, cashier at the corporation, took out a briefcase containing the amount and went to sign the attendance register after placing it on the table. When he returned, he found the briefcase missing. At that time, there were 10 pensioners waiting for the cashier, apart from 30 clerks, in that room. The chances of any of them taking away the cash were slim, neither could any stranger come into the room without the corporation employees noticing his presence, said Martin K. Mathew, Assistant Commissioner of Police (City), who is heading the investigation. The Ernakulam Central Police have initiated inquiry into the complaint filed by C.E. Basheer, secretary, Kochi Corporation.

The Ernakulam Central police arrested seven persons in various search operations last night. All of them were convicted in robbery and theft cases earlier. Muthuselvan of Tirunelveli, Sajan of Poonthura, Yesudas of Mavelikkara and Basheer of Ammayimukku, Kochi, were arrested while trying to break into the SNDP building at Mullassery Canal road at 1 a.m. Baiju of Kottayam and Shaji of Kozhikode were arrested while escaping with the rear door of the Union Bank of India at M.G.
