DAVANGERE, DEC. 7. The Davangere City Municipality Council (CMC) will take up a drive from the third week of December to convert unauthorised water connections into authorised connections to improve revenue collection. Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, D. Basavaraj, CMC president, said that there were about 18,960 authorised water connections in the city and around 15,000 unauthorised connections. The CMC expected revenue of Rs. 50 lakhs every year by authorising water connections in the city. It would also get Rs. 2 crores as deposit amount, he added. Mr. Basavaraj said that the municipality had been spending Rs. 4 crores every year over the past few years towards power charges and maintenance charges to supply potable water. He said that he wanted to ensure that potable water be supplied at least a no profit, no loss basis. The municipality has set January 31 as the deadline to convert unauthorised connections, he said. The CMC would initiate action against those who failed to convert unauthorised connections before the deadline.
