Middlesbrough rides on Viduka's brilliance

MIDDLESBROUGH, DEC. 7. Mark Viduka scored twice to help Middlesbrough to a 3-2 win over Manchester City in the English Premier League on Monday.

Viduka put Middlesbrough ahead after nine minutes with his first goal in nearly three months. The Australian took a pass from Stewart Downing and chipped it past Manchester City goalkeeper David James.

Robbie Fowler levelled for City after 39 minutes with a right-footed shot that hit the inside of the net's roof.

Viduka had Boro ahead again nine minutes after the restart, taking a one-two from Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink to sidefoot it past James.

Hasselbaink made it 3-1 after 65 minutes, earning a free kick then scoring from it inside the far post. City pulled a goal back through 19-year-old Bradley Wright-Phillips, who scored on his Premier League debut ten minutes from time. — AP
