KOCHI, DEC. 7. A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court today appointed the High Court Lawyer A. S. P. Kurup as Commissioner to oversee the conduct of the Vrischikolsavam of the Sree Poornathrayesa Temple. The Bench comprising Justice S. Sankarasubban and Justice K. R. Udayabanu issued the direction on a writ petition filed by the Sree Poornathrayesa Kshetra Kshema Samithy. According to the petition, the Cochin Devaswom Board was not allowing the samithy members to associate with the conduct of the Vrischikolsavam.
Festival panel
The Board had constituted the festival committee by including certain persons who had opposed the actions taken by the samithy earlier, the petition complained. The Board had contended that the petition was not maintainable. However, the court observed that the question of maintainability could be considered later since the festival had already started.
Complaints
In order to ward off all complaints and to see that the festival was conducted with the help and cooperation of all devotees, the court thought it fit to appoint a commissioner to oversee the conduct of festivals. The court said that the Commissioner would be part of the celebrations committee and all action taken by the committee should be supervised by the commissioner.
