Naxals' emissary seeks ceasefire extension

By Our Staff Reporter

WARANGAL, DEC. 7. The CPI (Maoist) emissary and its ideologue, Varavara Rao, today asked the State Government to extend the ceasefire agreement by another six months and raise the issue of arms during the second phase of talks with naxalite groups.

At a press conference here, Mr. Rao accused the Home Minister, K. Jana Reddy, of issuing `irresponsible statements' over peace talks. It was the State Government which violated the ceasefire agreement and not the naxal groups. He wanted Monitoring Committee members to visit villages and seek public opinion as to whether naxalites should give up arms and there would be any loss if they moved with arms. "Ceasefire means naxals will have arms but they will not use them," he said.
