JAMMU, DEC. 7. Elections for the urban bodies will be held in Jammu and Kashmir in the next two months after more than two decades. The schedule, except for Leh and Kargil districts, was announced by the Election Commission. A spokesman said the elections would be held on party lines with one-third of the total seats in each municipal body reserved for women. Reservation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes had also been provided in proportion to their respective population in the municipal area. Urban body polls were last held in Sheikh Abdullah's regime in the early 1980's. Polling for the Jammu Municipal Corporation would be held on February 1, 2005, while it would be held for Municipal Councils and Committees falling in Jammu and Kathua districts on February 7. Udhampur and Doda Municipal Councils and Committees would go to the polls on February 12 while Rajouri and Poonch districts have it on February 17. In the Kashmir division, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation poll would be on January 20 while for Municipal Councils and Committees of Baramulla and Kupwara it would be held on January 29. Anantnag and Pulwama districts would go to the polls on February 6 and the Municipal Councils and Committees falling in Srinagar and Badgam districts on February 10.
