Doctors examine Acharya

VELLORE,
DEC.7.
A five-member multi-speciality medical team, comprising a cardiologist, a diabetologist, an ophthalmologist, a physician and a surgeon, examined the Kanchi Sankaracharya, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi, in the central prison here on Tuesday.
The ophthalmologist was included following rumours that the Acharya was suffering from glaucoma.
Official sources said ophthalmological examinations showed that the Acharya's eyesight was quite normal and that he had no glaucoma. The medical team found that the Acharya had a normal blood sugar level, heart beat, pulse rate and eyesight.
Hereafter, he would be examined once a week by a multi-speciality medical team headed by the Joint Director of Medical Services , while the routine medical examination would continue to be conducted daily by the prison medical officer in the morning and evening , the sources said.
