Kunhalikutty issue a political one: Kanthapuram

By Our Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, DEC. 7. The Sunni leader, Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musaliar, has said that the Industries Minister, P.K. Kunhalikutty's resignation was not a concern of the Muslim community.

Addressing a press conference here today, the Sunni leader said that the issue was purely political and needed to be settled by politicians.

Expressing his reluctance to make any comments on the most-debated issue in the State, Mr. Aboobacker Musaliar said that the matter was before the courts and the Chief Minster, Oommen Chandy.

He was also opposed to the attempts to communalise the issue and would rather allow the law to takes its own course. He said that morality in politics had become causality and wanted political leaders to be a model on probity in public life.

In reply to a question, the Sunni Leader said that no discussion had been held between him and the Indian Union Muslim League leaders on the resignation issue.

He said that his organisation, the All-India Markzus Saquafathissunniyya (Sunni Cultural Centre) was of the view that the Narendran Commission recommendations on job reservation should be implemented.

He also said that the Sunni community did not get benefits it was entitled to even though the community had interests in various fields, including education.

Children adopted

The cultural centre has adopted 250 orphan children hailing from Jammu and Kashmir. Mr. Aboobacker Musaliar said that the children, in the age group of seven to 12, hail from Distugarh, Kupwara, Anantnag, Phulwama and Baramullah.

The children will arrive in Kozhikode on December 12.

Mr. Aboobacker Musaliar, said the decision to adopt the children had been taken at a meeting with the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, last month.

The children will be accompanied by a delegation of officials headed by Vijay Dogra, Press Secretary to the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.
