Short-lived camaraderie
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD,
DEC. 7.
The Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, and the Leader of the Opposition, N. Chandrababu Naidu, exhibited a spirit of camaraderie by shaking hands with each other in the Assembly just before the commencement of its winter session today.
The warmth, however, melted soon when the Telugu Desam and the Congress locked horns over the issue of irrigation tenders.
Dr. Reddy arrived five minutes before the commencement of the session and went round shaking hands and exchanging pleasantries with floor leaders and others. When the turn came to greet the Leader of the Opposition, N. Chandrababu Naidu, the Chief Minister gave a mild handshake but the two hardly exchanged any words. Both withdrew the hands, each with a different visage.
Members were dressed in their party colours, the Telugu Desam in yellow and the Communists in red shirts while Congress and TRS legislators sported scarves of their party colours -- the tri-colour and rose. Sporting a distinct look, the MIM members came in suits and blazers.
