HYDERABAD, DEC. 7. Hrishikesh Parab and Rajesh Pawar with an unbroken 149-run stand for the sixth wicket helped Baroda record a creditable five-wicket win and push Hyderabad virtually out of contention in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group `B' at the Gymkhana Grounds this afternoon. This was Hyderabad's second defeat in three matches, while Baroda stayed in the race by collecting four points from this win. Resuming at its overnight score of 182 for five, needing another 94 runs for a win, Baroda was rarely in trouble as Rajesh Pawar (95 not out) grew in confidence.
Flamboyant player
The way he launched himself into those flamboyant strokes on either side of the wicket could have put to shame the more reputed batsmen from either side. Treating both pace and spin with elan, Rajesh Pawar proved to be the right partner for the more disciplined Hrishikesh Parab (93 not out). It was a near flawless display today from the pair. Even the new ball failed to make any impact on them. What was most impressive was neither Parab nor Pawar were aiming for the three-figure mark despite being so close to that. Rajesh said that they never looked at the scoreboard during their partnership and were only targeting 10 runs each to romp home. Predictably, Hyderabad's hopes of pulling off a win largely depended on Narinderpal Singh. But the medium-pacer despite bowling a couple of good overs never really threatened to take wickets on a pitch that eased out considerably.
