NEW DELHI, DEC. 7. An alleged member of the dreaded Kishan Pehalwan gang, carrying a reward of Rs. 65,000 on his head, has been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police. He was wanted in over a dozen cases of murder. The Inter-State Cell of the Crime Branch had received a tip-off that Rajesh alias "Mogli", a sharp-shooter working for Kishan Pehalwan, who is presently lodged in jail, would come to meet his contact near Hotel The Grand at Vasant Kunj on Sunday. A team under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ravi Shankar, laid a trap near the hotel. Around 8-30 p.m., Rajesh, along with another associate Mahavir Don, appeared on the scene. When the police team challenged them, the suspects opened fire. In the ensuing melee, Mahavir managed to escape on motorcycle. Rajesh, who was trying to escape on foot, was arrested. His weapon and a spent cartridge was recovered from his possession. While the Haryana police had announced a reward of Rs. 50,000, the Delhi police too had announced a reward of Rs. 15,000 on Rajesh. The police said Rajesh was first booked in a cheating case in which he, along with seven others, had cheated a cooperative bank, where he was a peon, of Rs. 1.3 crores in 1997. He was arrested in the case. After being released on bail, he absconded and was declared a Proclaimed Offender. Subsequently, Rajesh was married to a girl from Dichau, the village of Kishan Pehalwan. He came to know Kishan Pehalwan and soon joined the gang.
