JAIPUR, DEC. 7. The Rajasthan Chief Minister, Vasundhara Raje, has announced a special package for welfare and empowerment of cattle breeders through credit card, insurance and protection of livelihood schemes. Ms. Raje released the package at a huge public meeting in Jalore on Monday. The credit card scheme under the package is the first of its kind launched in the country. She said the cattle breeders would be entitled to get credit from banks for maintenance of sheep, cows and other animals, while the cattle would be put under an insurance cover, enabling the owners to procure more animals in the event of their death or disability. The cattle breeders will get the benefit of life insurance for themselves under the Avikapaal Jeevan Raksha Yojana. Ms. Raje said the Central Government's Social Security Fund would contribute Rs. 100 to the premium of Rs. 200, while the State Government's Animal Husbandry Department would give Rs. 75. The Animal Husbandry Department will also contribute 25 per cent of the premium for extending insurance cover to the cattle. In another scheme for cattle breeders, their dependents will be given the insurance claim money on the payment of a nominal premium of Rs. 15. The Chief Minister said the State Government would shortly establish a Cattle Breeder Welfare Board and strengthen the wool mandis to generate more employment opportunities in the sector and improve the quality of wool produced. She called upon the sheep breeders to form their self-help groups to get benefit of the Government's schemes. Ms. Raje pointed out that attempts were being made to revive the milk production cooperative societies lying defunct since long with the special grant of Rs. 1,500 each sanctioned to them. She said the new societies would be encouraged to enrol those belonging to Scheduled Castes and Tribes as their members by payment of subsidy.
