Fishing equipment gutted on Tannirbavi beach

MANGALORE, DEC. 7. A shed used to store wood and fishing accessories accidentally caught fire on Tannirbavi beach near here on Tuesday afternoon. The police said the fire was noticed around 4.30 p.m. Three fire tenders from Mangalore were pressed into service to put out the fire.

The Additional Superintendent of Police, B.S. Lokesh Kumar, said the loss was being assessed. A case has been registered with the Panambur police.

Temple burgled

Burglars gained entry into Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple at Pandeshwar and broke open a hundi containing cash. A complaint has been lodged with the Mangalore South (Pandeshwar) police. A case has been registered.

Woman missing

Kusuma (33) of Mission Compound, Mullihithlu, has been reported missing since Sunday. According to complaint lodged with the Mangalore South police, Kusuma reportedly left her house stating that she was going to her brother's house in Kasaragod. The police are investigating.

Killed in accident

The driver of a lorry was killed and the cleaner injured when the vehicle overturned at Bhagawanthakodi near Nettlamudnuru in Bantwal taluk late on Monday. The police said the lorry was on its way from Mulki to Virajpet when it hit a mound of mud on the roadside and overturned. The victim has been identified as D.P. Krishna (41) of Virajpet. The cleaner Krishna Naik who sustained minor injuries on his head was discharged after treatment. The Vittla Police have registered a case.

Suicide

A person reportedly committed suicide by getting run over by a train near the Thokkottu railway bridge on Monday. The victim has been identified as Bhavani Shankar (67) of Krishna Nagar at Ullal. The railway police have registered a case.
