UDUPI, DEC. 7. The Minister for Public Works and Energy, H.D. Revanna, said on Tuesday that the issue of setting up of a power project by a private company near Padubidri in the district would be dealt with according to the law. He told presspersons at Hattiangady in Udupi district that the Government would see to it that people were not affected by the project. On the issue of movement of lorries overloaded with manganese ore in the district, the Minister said he knew the seriousness of the problem and would bring it to the notice of the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh; the Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah; and the Minister for Transport, M. Mallikarjun Kharge. A meeting would be called in Bangalore next week to discuss the issue. Officials of Department of Transport and the Regional Transport Officers would attend the meeting. The matter would be discussed and a decision taken. Roads and bridges built a few decades ago in the district were unable to withstand the heavy load, he added. Earlier, the Minister inaugurated a bridge connecting Hattiangady and Hattikudru over River Halady, built at an estimated cost of Rs. 1 crore. Mr. Revanna said that he would direct the zilla panchayat to construct a road connecting Huttikudru and Halady village. Halady Srinivas Shetty and Abhayachandra Jain, MLAs; the former MLA Appanna Hegde and the president of the district unit of the Janata Dal (Secular), Mahim Kumar Hegde, were present.
