MANGALORE, DEC. 7. A Rajagopura built across the main gate of Kadri Manjunatha Temple here will be inaugurated by the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, B. Janaradhana Poojary, MP, on Thursday. At a press conference here on Tuesday, A.J. Shetty, managing trustee of the temple, said the gopura in Pallava and Hoysala styles of architecture were built according to Vaastu Shastra. The five steps of the structure symbolised Panchabhootas and Panchatatwas and were known as Pancha Nelas. There were sculptures of the Ganas of Shiva. The number of murthys that adorned the gopura was 108. The cost incurred was Rs. 20 lakhs. Outlining the works taken up on the temple during the past five years, Mr. Shetty said the inner ground had been paved with granite and the inner circle with marble. The Ayyappa Gudi had been renovated. The Ganapathy temple renovation, construction of Vasantha Mantap, a toilet complex and changing rooms for men and women devotees, renovation of Nagabanas and building of a silver chariot were estimated at Rs. 65 lakhs. All the works during the past five years cost Rs. 1 crore. Anna Prasadam was being given to over 1,000 people a day. Lunch was being served to children in a nearby Government school. The temple had helped the renovation and upkeep of a Hindu crematorium. Outlining the future plans, Mr. Shetty said the temple intended to build a 1,000-seat dining hall for which land had been bought. The temple's property at Mallikatta had been secured and a Yatri Nivas would be built at that place, he added.
