Training at NIT-K
The programme is being sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology of the Union Government. The course coverage will be mainly on computer hardware assembly and peripherals along with entrepreneurial inputs such as working capital, basic accounts, market survey, preparation of project report, management of small enterprises and so on. Graduates in science and engineering and diploma holders aged 20 to 40 who are interested in taking up self-employment ventures are eligible to participate. Admission is free. Those interested may apply to the Director, NITK-STEP, Srinivasnagar PO, Surathkal 575 025 (ph: 2475490) on or before December 22.
Remembrance
Mr. Kasturi said Sharma never hankered after any position and led a simple life. He wrote over 120 books and translated many works. He was also a journalist. His contribution to Gandhian and Sarvodaya literature were invaluable. His books such as Vardha Yatre and Parna Kuti are rated among the best prose works in modern Kannada literature. M.L. Samaga, Principal of MGM College, welcomed the gathering. The president of Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi, Bangalore, H. Srinivasaiah, presided over the function. Mohan, son of Sharma, were present.
Workshop
Prof. Ballal said rotor dynamics had made rapid strides. On science and technology, which were progressing at an astonishing pace, he said: "Half of what we know is proved wrong in a year. But we do not know which half it is.'' The Additional General Manager of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd., B. Pandarinath Rao, inaugurated the workshop. S. Gurumadhwa Rao, Registrar of the academy, and B.S. Bairi, Joint Director of institute, were present.
Conference
A press release from Gurucharan Rao, convener of the conference, here on Tuesday said the vice-president of the organisation, S.S. Mothi, would inaugurate the conference. Mr. Rao said nearly 250 delegates from Udupi division were expected to participate. The focus of the event would be entry of private players and foreign direct investment in the insurance sector and challenges faced by agents. The move to impose service tax on premium would be discussed, he added.
