By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI,
DEC. 7.
Volunteers of the Association of Rural Mass India (ARM) and the Southern Railway Bharat Scouts and Guides Centre conducted an awareness campaign for autorickshaw drivers on the prevention of HIV/AIDS on Tuesday, as part of a weeklong programme. The AIDS Prevention and Control (APAC) Society also took part in the campaign. P. Krishnamurthy, project director, APAC, distributed certificates to the volunteers.
The ARM executive director, A. Bakthavatchalam, said that during the week volunteers distributed 100,000 pamphlets in the city and stuck stickers on 4,000 autorickshaws. One hundred autorickshaw drivers were educated on the concepts of HIV/AIDS. Seventeen of them were enrolled as peer educators, and 42 volunteered to conduct preventive and awareness activities.
