Gannavaram airport recorded a maximum temperature of 30 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 20.2 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. Humidity which was 79 per cent in the morning dropped to 67 per cent in the evening.

Commodity prices

The following are the prices (in rupees per kg) of the essential commodities in the local wholesale markets on Tuesday, according to the Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industry: groundnut oil - 51, palmolein oil - 40.75, sunflower oil - 52.50, tamarind (flower variety) - 35 to 39, tamarind (karipuli variety) - 45 to 54, chillies (AC) - 20 to 27, chillies (non-AC) - 12 to 14, rice (2716) - 12, rice superfine (samba masoori) - 13 to 14, rice (sona masoori) - 15 to 16, black gram - 25, red gram - 23.50 to 28.50.

Prize-winners

Students of Parvathaneni Brahmayya Sidhartha College of Arts and Science have excelled in fine arts competition conducted by Lalitha Kala Academy of Guntur, according to the College principal, S.V.Subrahmanya Sastry. In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Mr. Sastry said that the N.C.Koushik Kalyan bagged first prize in violin and P. Siddhendra Vara Prasad stood second in classical dance. Kosuhik Kalyan also won the second prize in light music. The college's fine arts coordinator, A. Srinivasa Rao, lecturers, Gopala Rao and K. Manmatha Rao, led the team of students to the competitions. The vice-principal, M. Ramakrishna, complimented the winners.
