Chandy to

open hospital

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, DEC. 7. The Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, will inaugurate the Sri Gokulam Hospital at Venjaramoodu on Wednesday. The hospital, which has been set up under the Sri Gokulam Medical College and Research Foundation, is spread over an area of 4.2 lakh sq. ft, on seven floors. It will have all modern facilities, including a 300-bed general ward, a 45-bed critical care and intensive care units, 15 operation theatres, 80-bed cardiology centre, hi-tech ambulances, blood banks and clinical laboratories. The Health Minister, K.K. Ramachandran, will preside over the function.

KGOU meet

A three-day State-level meeting of the Kerala Gazetted Officers Union (KGOU) will begin the VJT Hall on Wednesday. A stone-laying ceremony for the new building of Union will also take place on the occasion. According to the organisers, the union will take up the issue of not granting dearness allowance to the State Government employees, while employees in most of the other States have already received 50 per cent of their DA along with the salary.

Building gutted

An ancient two-storeyed building, housing the office of a construction company, near the City Police Commissionerate at Thycaud, caught fire late tonight. There are no casualties. Four fire engines have rushed to the spot after being tipped of by some local residents.
