HYDERABAD, DEC. 7. The five-day padayatra of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MLA of Nerella of Karimnagar district, Kasipeta Lingaiah, and his followers demanding water for the Upper Manair Dam, culminated at Indira Park here on Tuesday.

Mr. Lingaiah led a delegation to the Assembly to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. The MLA district touched the feet of Dr. Reddy after submitting the memorandum.

The 150-km-long padayatra of Mr. Lingaiah commenced at Narmal village in the Assembly constituency represented by him, on December 2. The dam is located in the village but has no water for several years. It has an ayacut of 17,000 acres.

The MLA reminded Dr. Reddy about the latter's visit to the dam during his padayatra two years ago. He demanded filling the dam with water from Godavari lift-irrigation scheme or in the alternative from the Sriramsagar Project or the Ellampally reservoir.

The Chief Minister promised to allocate funds for the project in the next year's budget, Mr. Lingaiah said.
