Stone-pelting that was not to be

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, DEC. 7. A day after `Black Day' passed off peacefully, a telephonic complaint about mischievous kids throwing stones in Rein Bazar on Monday, sent the police into a tizzy. .

A lady doctor from Rein Bazar police station area called up the police control room on Tuesday complaining that some kids were hurling stones at her house. The control room directed the local policemen to take care of the "stone-pelting" in Old City. The alert was also sounded on the VHF sets of the policemen, creating a flutter.

The doctor is said to have objected to some children playing cricket in the street as the ball was repeatedly falling inside the compound of her house. "When she asked the kids to stop the game, the mischievous children pelted a couple of stones on her house.

In fact, she wanted to complain about the kids creating a nuisance and instead said that they were resorting to stone-pelting," the Mirchowk ACP, T.V. Rajagopal, explained.

Rumours spread

If the telephonic call created panic at Rein Bazar, rumours of a religious place being `damaged' had the cops scurrying to Madannapet.

Inquiries revealed that no such incident took place. "Some scratches were spotted on the doors of a roadside place of worship suggesting that someone hurled stones at them.

This set off rumours that a religious place was damaged," the Santoshnagar ACP, Saheb Peer, explained. Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Police Commissioner, V. Dinesh Reddy, thanked the people, policemen and religious leaders for maintaining peace during the `Black Day'.
