Letters to the Editor
Sir, This refers to the article, `Constitution, Parliament, and the people' by Somnath Chatterjee (Dec. 8). In our system of democracy, Parliament is supreme. If its performance has been dismaying, of late, the blame should lie, not on the people, but on the managers of our political system.
R.K. Divakara,
* * * Sir, The article has not come a day too soon. Everybody will agree with all that the author has stated. However, one cannot help but be cynical and sceptical because of the double standards of the politicians. The priority is to rid Parliament of chargesheeted elements. `Equality before the law' must be upheld. Otherwise it does not matter whether our legislatures function, do not function or are turned into a free-for-all.
Hilda Raja,
* * * Sir, As the Lok Sabha Speaker and as a senior parliamentarian, Mr. Chatterjee has to take the responsibility of educating the members first and ensuring that every member has a clear idea of the Constitution as well as of Parliament procedures.
Chetan Kathi,
