ACCRA (Ghana): The incumbent, John Kufuor, held a broad lead on Wednesday in partial results from Ghana's presidential race, election officials said. Mr. Kufuor received 56 per cent of the votes with half of the ballots counted from Tuesday's race. The strongest of his three challengers, John Atta Mills, had 41 per cent. The results were from 115 of 230 parliamentary districts. The full results are expected by Thursday. Mr. Kufuor, whose 2000 election marked the first peaceful, democratic transfer of power in Ghana, is seeking a second term. The country is the world's No. 2 cocoa producer and a leading gold producer. Mr. Kufuor's 2000 election marked the voluntary ceding of power by then-President, Jerry Rawlings, the latest in decades of coup-installed leaders. AP
