Big time tennis to hit Kolkata

KOLKATA, DEC. 8. The city came up on the international tennis map in a big way with the announcement of the $170,000 Sunfeast Open 2005, which will be a part of the WTA tour come September next year. As for the prize money, the event will be next in stature only to the men's annual ATP event, Chennai Open, this was revealed here in a news conference here by the tennis ace Mahesh Bhupathi, whose sports management company, Globosport, will organise the meet. The event, to be held between September 19 to 25, will be sponsored by ITC's foods division — Sunfeast.

About his own tennis career, Bhupathi ruled out any more partnerships with Leander Paes saying, "we took a shot at it but things did not work out.'' He said he was looking forward to pairing with the Australian Todd Woodbridge. "He's a legend and I am excited about playing with him,'' Bhupathi said adding that "first we have set the chemistry right'' to get the new partnership working. — Our Sports Reporter
