Army, militants exchange fire in Manipur
IMPHAL,
DEC. 8.
An exchange of fire between insurgents and the Army was today reported from Tangsang in Churachandpur district, an interior area of Manipur, official sources said.
Heavily armed insurgents attacked an army post in the district this morning with the Army personnel returning the fire, the sources said.
Casualty, if any, was not immediately known, the sources said.
Defence sources said several gunshots were heard in the area but details were unavailable.
A caller who identified himself as a spokesman of the Manipur People's Army (MPA), the armed wing of the separatist United National Liberation Front, told local media here that four armymen had been killed in the attack on the camp. Defence sources did not confirm it. PTI
