HYDERABAD, DEC. 8. Two workers were killed and 10 others were injured when the third floor roof of prestigious `Paryatak Bhavan', billed as the one-stop destination for tourists, under construction at Greenlands junction, here, collapsed this afternoon. The mishap occurred at 3 p.m. when the concrete slab being laid for the Rs. 20-crore structure taken up by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation caved in. Many among the 60 workers had gone out for lunch minutes before the collapse. Twentytwo-year-old Jangaiah of Shamirpet in Ranga Reddy, who was trapped under a heap of concrete, died. Eleven others sustained injuries as the construction material fell on them. They were rushed to Gandhi Hospital. One of them later died in the hospital.
Enquiry ordered
Rescue teams from Secunderabad, Musheerabad and Sanatnagar fire stations rushed to the spot. They started clearing the debris by using hydraulic gas cutters to extricate the trapped body. Ramky Construction Company of Hyderabad had taken up construction work in November last. Delhi-based Utpal Ghosh and company had provided the architectural design for the complex. The Minister for Tourism, J. Geeta Reddy, and the Hyderabad Collector, Arvind Kumar, told reporters at the spot that magisterial and departmental inquiries had been ordered. Dr. Reddy announced an ex gratia of Rs. 1 lakh to the family of Jangaiah. The Secunderabad RDO, Ramakrishna Reddy, would conduct the magisterial enquiry and submit a report within 30 days.
