Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, DEC. 8. M. Ramadass (Pattali Makkal Katchi), Member of Parliament, has been nominated Chairman of the Vigilance and Monitoring Committee for implementing schemes of the Union Rural Development Ministry in Pondicherry district. The Union Minister, Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, in a communication to Mr. Ramadass (a copy of which was distributed by the MP to mediapersons here today) said the nomination was as part of reconstitution of the committee, which would serve as a joint forum for the Central and State Governments to monitor rural development programmes. With the Centre providing a substantial portion of funds for rural development and State Governments implementing them there was a need for effective coordination between the two. The Minister asked Mr. Ramadass to hold the first meeting of the reconstituted committee at the earliest. The Rural Development Ministry implements several schemes such as poverty alleviation, employment generation and development of infrastructure.
