HYDERABAD, DEC. 8. Congress leaders are vying with one another to celebrate the 59th birthday of AICC president, Ms. Sonia Gandhi, on Thursday by lining up a series of programme in Hyderabad and elsewhere. The Pradesh Congress Committee has geared up to hold a number of programmes at Gandhi bhavan. The party focus is on `service to the needy symbolising Ms. Gandhi's supreme sacrifice and preference to service over power.'' The PCC and its frontal outfits are going all out to show their loyalty to the party chief.
Free eye check-up
The PCC official spokesman, Md. Jani, told reporters today that the doctor's cell was organising a blood donation camp and free eye check-up from 8.30 a.m. at party headquarters. All patients above 45 years would be provided free spectacles. The doctors have roped in Sarojini Devi eye hospital and Shankar Netralaya for the camp. More than 1,000 eye donation pledges would be collected tomorrow, he added. The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, would inaugurate the Sonia Gandhi free health clinic and cut the cake. The PCC chief, K. Keshava Rao, would visit various hospitals and old-age homes to distribute fruits and gifts. The Youth Congress, NSUI and mahila wing would distribute milk packets, fruits and medicines to the patients in Government hospitals. The linguistic minority cell would distribute saris and blankets to the poor.
