RAJAHMUNDRY, DEC. 8. The body of an Excise constable, G. Ramakrishna, who disappeared on Tuesday evening while on the duty of serving court summons, was found on an island in the Godavari on Wednesday. The constable's disappearance had led to suspicion that he was killed by the man for whom the summons were meant, at Kotilingalarevu. The constable's two-wheeler was found on the riverbank. Both the Excise and Prohibition Department and the police had undertaken a search for him in the river in the night. The Deputy Superintendent of Police, P.H.D. Ramakrishna, told reporters that the constable's body was found washed ashore on R.K. Revulanka at around 11 a.m. and that investigation pointed to the involvement of one J. Srinu and his sons.
Case pending
According to him, Srinu had a case pending against him by the Excise and Prohibition Department. Investigation showed that the Excise constable was seen having an altercation with Srinu before his disappearance, the DSP pointed out. The police believe that the body of the constable, which bore head injuries, was carried in a boat and dumped in the river with a sandbag tied to it. Police launched a hunt for the accused and his sons.
