NEW DELHI, DEC. 8. Members of the Lok Sabha today expressed grief over the death of Brazilian footballer Cristiano Junior during the Federation Cup final in Bangalore on Sunday and demanded an inquiry into lack of medical facilities at the ground. Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Gurudas Dasgupta (Communist Party of India) said even elementary medical facilities were not available at the stadium and the ambulance stationed there did not have an oxygen cylinder. Seeking an inquiry into lack of medical facilities, Mr. Dasgupta said adequate compensation should be paid to the next of kin of Cristiano, who was playing for Dempo Sports Club, Goa. No football tournament should be allowed till arrangements for medical facilities at the venue of matches were ensured. Joining the members, the Speaker, Somnath Chatterjee, said the House mourned the death of Cristiano. PTI
