`Hundred-day action plan a farce'

By Our Staff Reporter

ALAPPUZHA, DEC. 8. The NCP leader and MLA A.C. Shanmughadas has said that the 100-day action plan of the Oommen Chandy Government is a farce and has not benefited the public.

At a meet-the-press programme organised by the Alappuzha Press Club today, Mr. Shanmughadas said the beneficiaries of the 100-day programme were being decided by the various District Congress Committees in the State. "The list of beneficiaries is prepared at Congress offices," he alleged.

Atrocities

The NCP leader alleged that if the A.K. Antony government was responsible for not doing anything, the Oommen Chandy Government was committing atrocities.

The Chief Minister seemed to be aiming at doing in 100 days what the Antony government could not do in three years, Mr. Shanmughadas said.

"Mr. Chandy is a hardworking politician and he is trying to generate enthusiasm among the Congress workers," Mr. Shanmughadas said. But the Chief Minister's efforts had only succeeded in angering the public, he added.

He said the atrocities taking place in the State at present had no precedent and the current Government is likely to be the last UDF Government in the State.

Treason

Mr. Shanmughadas said the IUML workers who had denigrated India's national flag and raised the party flag at Karipur airport had committed high treason. He said Mr. Kunhalikutty was the main culprit in the matter. He asked whether the State Government that took the initiative to register cases against RSP(B) leader A.V. Thamarakshan and MLA Shibu Baby John would take the initiative to file a case against Mr. Kunhalikutty.

The NCP leader said the Congress should decide whether Mr. Kunhalikutty should continue to be part of the ministry and should not leave the decision to the IUML. The Congress, which had a responsibility to take action against Mr. Kunhalikutty, was trying to protect him, Mr Shanmughadas alleged.

NCP meet

Mr. Shanmughadas who is a working committee member of the NCP said the party working committee that would meet in New Delhi on December 17 and 18 would discuss the issue of return of former Lok Sabha Speaker P.A. Sangma to the party. The NCP would nominate the son of Mr. Sangma in the Shillong Lok Sabha byelection that would be held soon, he added.
