`Tiwari Govt. not taking Maoist's threat seriously'

By Our Staff Correspondent

DEHRA DUN, DEC. 8. The Bharatiya Janata Party has expressed grave fears at the Narain Dutt Tiwari Government not taking the Maoist threat and frequent "illegal" acts of the police seriously.

"The Government is supposed to act swiftly and sternly on the anti-national activities of the Nepal Maoists trying to establish a base in Uttaranchal. The frequent appearance of anti- India posters in the bordering districts, seizure of arms from forests in Kumaon region and reports of training camps being held there are a serious matter concerning the very security of the nation," the former Finance Minister and BJP State general secretary, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, said here today.

Accusing the Congress Government of having lost all control over the police, Mr Nishank wanted to know what steps had been taken to prevent the recurrence of incidents like a near police revolt that took place at the fag end of the Kumbh Mela in Hardwar or killing of an innocent lady by cops near the IDPL gate in Rishikesh recently.

The people also want to know what action the Government had taken against some top officials involved in the sub- inspectors recruitment scam, he said.
