REAL (PHILIPPINES), DEC. 9. Rescuers on Thursday pulled at least four survivors from a building that collapsed in mudslips 10 days ago, while officials raised the toll from the back-to-back storms that devastated the Philippines' northeast to at least 842 persons. More than 750 persons are missing. The four survived by drinking ``any kind of liquid that dripped'' from the rubble that entrapped them, said Maria Tamares (49), who was pulled alive together with her 3-year-old granddaughter and two teenage boys in Real, about 70 km east of Manila. Covered with blankets and lying on makeshift stretchers, they were flown to a hospital after being given sips of coconut water. They were apparently holed up in the kitchen of the two-story building, which was buried under piles of mud on November 29, when the worst of two storms that battered the region for about a week massive landslips and flash floods, witnesses said. As search and rescue crews continued to pick their way through debris, the Office of Civil Defence raised the number of people known to have been killed, by 102 to 842. It said 751 persons are missing. AP
