This Day That Age
Mr. Ichiro Hatoyama, leader of the newly-formed Democratic Party, took over on December 9 as Japan's new Premier, succeeding Mr. Shigeru Yoshida, who resigned two days ago. Mr. Hatoyama had broken away from Mr. Yoshida's Liberal Party. The Lower House gave Mr. Hatoyama 257 votes, against 191 for Mr. Taketora Ogata, who became leader of the Liberals in place of Mr. Yoshida.
