Sir, The Bihar Military Police's crackdown on criminals pursuing their nefarious activities from within the State's jails is laudable. The Patna High Court, which ordered the raids, did well to direct a search of the jail authorities too. If a prison's inmates have a free run inside its premises, there is no meaning in sending the convicted to jails.

* * * Sir, Bihar is the worst example of the deterioration of the democratic system. Drastic measures have to be thought of by all constitutionally empowered people to prevent this situation from being replicated elsewhere.
