PONDICHERRY, DEC. 9. Activists of the Anna Trade Union (affiliated to the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) were detained today when they attempted to stage a demonstration near a textile mill.

The protesters, led by the secretary of the trade union, A. Ravindran, alleged that the organisers of the silver jubilee celebrations of AFT Mill Cooperative Credit Society had finalised the programmes without consulting the trade unions affiliated to Opposition political parties.
