24/7 Customer opens Chennai centre for BPO services

CHENNAI, DEC. 9. 24/7 Customer, provider of outsourced contact centre and BPO services to global companies, has opened its facility for BPO services in Chennai. The company will add 1,000 new jobs in Chennai, over the next 6-9 months. The Chennai facility has a capacity of 250 seats, which would be expanded to 500 seats over the next six months.

The Chennai centre is the third location after Bangalore and Hyderabad.

P. V. Kannan, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the company said, "24/7 Customer has chalked out ambitious plans for growth. The expansion of its Chennai centre is part of a strategic initiative to be present in multiple locations. While the company is going ahead with its acquisition plans in the U.S. and the U.K., 24/7 Customer is also growing rapidly in India, he added.

The company plans to close the financial year with 9000 employees. Earlier this year the company inaugurated its second centre in Bangalore.

Inaugurating the facility, Kiran Karnik, President, National Association of Software and Services Companies, said Chennai had been the preferred destination for many of the IT and BPO companies. Chennai was also concentrating on the growth of infrastructure and meeting the customers' requirements.

The Information Technology Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Government, Vivek Harinarain, said that the nearly 500 million sq. ft. space was under construction in Chennai for locating IT and BPO companies. Lands were being identified to woo the companies into Chennai.

R. Rajalakshmi, Director, Software Technology Parks of India, Chennai, said, the State Government and the STPI were working together to make Chennai a major technology hub.
