VHP functionary moves High court
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI,
DEC. 9.
A senior Vishwa Hindu Parishad functionary has moved the Madras High Court seeking a direction to authorities to permit him to have an interview with the Kanchi Acharya in the Vellore Central Prison.
The VHP vice-president in the State, S. Vedantham, said in his petition that he had been denied permission to meet the Kanchi Acharya, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi, who is in judicial custody since November 11 in connection with the Sankararaman murder case.
He has sought a court direction to the Director-General of Police, the Home Secretary and the Superintendent of Central Prison at Vellore to grant him permission to meet the Acharya.
When the matter came up before Justice, A. Kulasekaran, for hearing today, the Additional Advocate-General, A.L. Somayaji, sought time to get instructions from authorities.
The matter was adjourned to tomorrow for further hearing.
