Vinita, Somani win gold medals

NEW DELHI, DEC. 9. Vinita Tripathi of Delhi and S. C. Somani of Ajmer won the gold in the women's and men's 200-metre event of the 38th LIC North Zone athletic meet at the Nehru Stadium warm-up ground here on Thursday. Somani clocked 24.2 seconds and Vinita 28.4 seconds.

Shiv Singh of Jaipur with a jump of 5.36 metres and Renu Sharma of Delhi with a jump of 4.80 won the long jump events in the men's and women's sections respectively.

Renu bagged the 400-metre hurdles gold as well with a timing of one minute 18.0 seconds.

P. J. Singh of Bikaner won the men's discus and shot put events with throws of 36.90 metres and 12.43 metres respectively.

Heera Lal of Shimla won the men's 5000 metres and the honour in the 10,000 metres event went to Shamsher Singh of Karnal.

Rajesh Meena of Bikaner won the 110-metre hurdles gold and the silver in the 200 metres.

The 400-metre hurdles was won by G. L. Chapparwal of Bikaner and Ritu Bhatia won the women's discus.
