CHENNAI. DEC. 9. The Indian Association of Sports Medicine has planned an all India conference-cum-workshop here on various aspects of managing field injury in sports apart from sports psychology, physiotherapy, nutrition, drug problems from January 6 to 9.

Giving this information Dr. David Rajan, a leading orthopaedician and organising chairman, has said that in addition to experts from India, the conference is expected to have leading practitioners from abroad.

He said those who have indicated their participation are Dr. Gideon Mann from Israel, Dr. Aki Hintsa (Sports Surgeon) from Finland, Andrew Leipus (the Indian cricket team's physio from Australia) and several others. Tennis ace Vijay Amritraj will inaugurate the conference.

The event, to be jointly organised by Dr. David Rajan and Dr. P.V. Jayashankar, will have the main focus on prevention of sports injuries.

Women in sports is another segment to be discussed. This conference will be useful for sports medicine specialists, doctors, coaches, physiotherapists, athlete trainers, gym trainers and sportspersons in general.

The conference gains importance in the light of recent tragic death of footballer Cristiano Junior.

"Training our Indian doctors, coaches and trainers in sports medicine is the only long-term solution to this problem.

The conference will highlight the development of team physician — a dedicated doctor who cares for the entire team on basic life support (resuscitation and sports rehabilitation).
