KOCHI, DEC. 9 . The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) has decided to charge a fee of Re. 1 per person for entering the Musical Walkway on the Marine Drive. The DTPC meeting, presided by the District Collector, A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish, decided to increase the fee for film shooting on the Musical Walkway to Rs. 5,000 from Rs. 2,000. The decision comes in the wake of the DTPC incurring huge expense for the maintenance work of the Musical Walkway and the Chinese Net Bridge including the electricity charges. The meeting decided that all the projects to be implemented by the DTPC from now onwards would focus on generating revenue. Since many projects implemented earlier could not raise revenues, the DTPC was unable to ensure their proper maintenance, the meeting said. Only the artificial pond in the Children's Park was functioning without incurring losses for the DTPC. It was also decided to charge fee for all programmes conducted by private parties on the Durbar Hall grounds. The Aluva Manappuram Development Project was approved by the meeting. The project will soon be forwarded for Government approval. The Rs. 24-lakhs-worth project will be implemented without destroying the natural beauty of the landscape. Walkways, toilets, boat jetty, ice-cream parlour, kiosks and lamp posts will be set up as part of the project. Facilities for boating will also be made available. The DTPC also approved of a project for building a Rs. 25-lakhs-worth restaurant near the entrance to the Manappuram at Thottakkattukara. The meeting decided to include seven more houses under the Home Stay project. Thirteen more applications have been received under the project in the district so far. The Greater Cochin Development Authority chairman, Antony Issac, and the RDO, Mini Antony, in charge of the DTPC secretary, participated in the meeting.
