SALEM, DEC. 10 . Hundreds of activists of DMK and its allies including Congress, PMK, CPI, CPI (M), MDMK and Indian Union Muslim League staged a demonstration near the Collectorate here today to condemn Hindutva outfits and the BJP for accusing Congress leader Sonia Gandhi for the arrest of Kanchi Acharya and to protest the AIADMK Government's failure to carry out people welfare schemes. Led by former minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam, the agitators raised slogans against the BJP and other Hindutva forces such as VHP and RSS for attempting to involve the Centre and Sonia Gandhi in the arrest of the Kanchi seer. The road workers should be reinstated as directed by the court, they demanded. While addressing the gathering, Mr. Arumugam said that Hindutva outfits and the BJP were attempting to divert the attention of the public from the arrest of the seer.
