Greaves rolls out millionth engine

DEC. 10.
Greaves Cotton, a part of the B. M. Thapar Group, today rolled out its millionth light diesel engine from its Ranipet plant in Tamil Nadu. Karan Thapar, Chairman of the company, said, "The rolling out of the millionth light diesel engine was a red-letter day in the history of Greaves Cotton. It is a high point of our success as manufacturers of diesel engines and we are all proud of it." Greaves began making light diesel engines in 1977 at its plant in Aurangabad and expanded the operations by acquiring a plant at Ranipet in 1994.
According to a company release, Greaves has a share of 60 per cent in the Rs. 1,000-crore light diesel engine market. The company is targeting a 20 per cent growth in the next 2-3 years.
