Cristiano died of cardiac arrest: Autopsy report

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE, DEC. 10. The post-mortem report on Cristiano Junior has confirmed that the footballer had died of a cardiac arrest following over-exertion and excitement.

The report by the Forensic Science Department of the Victoria Hospital, which conducted the post-mortem, stated, "following chemical examination and histopathology report, it was established that the death was due to cardiac arrest following functional cardiac disturbances due to over-exertion and excitement ".

Meanwhile, the local police ruled out any action against the Mohun Bagan goalkeeper, Subroto Paul, and Karnataka State Football Association (KSFA) on the complaint by Dempo coach, Armanda Colaco.

PTI reports from Panaji:

The widow of Cristiano Junior, Julianna, met the Goa Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar, on Friday and requested to conduct a second post-mortem. She also urged him to speed up the probe into Cristiano's death.

Our Delhi Correspondent reports:

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) will have no objection to Christiano Junior's family or club wanting a second autopsy. "They can get their own doctors if they want," said the AIFF president Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi here on Friday.

The AIFF has also `frozen' the referee, S.M. Balu, from officiating any further match. The referee has been penalised for `slow action.' Mr. Dasmunsi claimed that the authorities had a doctor on duty at the venue.

The AIFF also announced it would hold a charity match to raise funds for Junior's family.
