MYSORE, DEC. 10. A workshop on "Curriculum adaptation for children with hearing impairment: A computer based approach", organised by the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, was inaugurated here on Friday. The two-day workshop inaugurated by the General Manager, Bharat Sanchat Nigam Limited, T.K. Chandrashekar, is being sponsored by the Rehabilitation Council of India. Mr. Chandrashekar said there was a need for professionals from fields such as special education, speech and hearing and computers to come together and develop undistorted and appropriate means of communication for hearing impaired children. Besides having discussion with resource persons, the participants were involved in adapting high school curriculum for hearing impaired children. A release said the purpose of the workshop was to bring about a meaningful change in the curriculum for hearing impaired from the previous learning methods. With coordination of computer professionals, regular teachers, special educators and speech and hearing professionals, an adapted curriculum would be evolved for hearing impaired children in high schools. The Director of All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, M. Jayaram, the Head, Department of Audiology, Asha Yathiraj, and the Director of NISH, Thiruvananthapuram, K.N. Pavithran, were present.
