Bring legislation on categorisation: MRPS

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, DEC. 10. Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti (MRPS) activists took out a rally from Indira Park on Friday demanding that the Centre pass legislation to continue categorisation of the Scheduled Castes.

The Samiti had launched a Statewide agitation after Supreme Court struck down categorisation of the SCs recently. Marching through the streets of the State capital, the MRPS activists carrying placards raised slogans against the Government's "indifference."

A large number of women also joined the procession, which culminated in a public meeting at Baghlingampalli Park.

Speaking at the meeting, the MRPS president, Kanaka Rao, and the general secretary, Krupakar Madiga, asked the Centre to pass legislation, which ensures continuation of categorisation They questioned the silence of the Government on the Supreme Court verdict. They wondered how the Government swung into action after the High Court struck down reservation for Muslims.

All fresh recruitments should be stopped till the categorisation was finalised. Those who had been recruited following categorisation should not be dismissed, they added.
